The philosophical problem with inspiration

Did you ever get inspired? We come across different kinds of people everyday. Now due to excess reach of internet we even interact with unknown people. You may see a movie star or a scientist and instantly want to be like them. The problem is each and every individual mind is different and has a unique skill set. If you spent most of the time in studies like usually happens in India then it is stupidity to get inspired by a famous musician and wanting to be like him. Some successful people often talk about passion. Everybody have a quirk for something. It might be music, dance, science or acting. Some are lucky to have circumstances and people in favor which allowed them to up skill in that. Now there are others who cannot afford risking education for music as there is less chances of succeeding. Also the people with a quirk in math or science are lucky. They never encounter this problem. We take up engineering or medicine and end up mediocre’s. We work for successful people. We make them rich. Every single day we wonder and imagine us in a better place. Some people don’t even have a chance to identify their quirks when they are kids and they eventually fade away. Some people know but couldn’t do anything about them. The first kind are stable and live happily. The second kind tasted the quirks so always regret not able to up skill them. The intention of this essay is to help these people.

These people consistently suffer from reality. They regret not making right choices regarding their careers. They often get depressed. They are hihly unstable switching in between day job and quirk. The worst case scenario is having multiple quirks during teenage years. It is very tough for them to let go. The psychological term for these kind of people is “scanners”. I will discuss scanners in some other essay later but the solution works for everyone whether he has on quirk or multiple quirks.

  1. They should accept the fact that now they are adult and should not start seriously to up skill their quirk. Instead they should take the pleasure at an amateur level without trying to perfect it just for the sake of the moment.
  2. If they have any personal inspiration that is off the field of their work, they should try to adapt the generic characteristics of that person instead of copying that field of expertise. Because i’m telling you, “every individual is different”.

For example you are inspired by Sherlock Holmes then trying to be an expert in criminal science or forensic technology will take you nowhere as they are professional areas of study. You need a master’s degree and in some cases a phd to be good at them. Getting inspired or trying to be an imposer and practically being capable have a lot of grey area in between. Instead you can adapt Holmes importance of applying critical thinking and logic in problem solving in your field of work. Like Sherlock Holmes said “Crime is everywhere but logic is rare”. You can adapt his style of blunt reality. There is a situation where sherlock holmes supports his 7% cocaine intake by saying “I suppose that it’s influence is a bad one, I find it however, so transcendentally stimulating and clarifying to the mind that it’s secondary action is a matter of small moment”. After reading thhis you should not start adding cocaine to your diet. It is a matter of what to take and what not to take from it. You should be capable of understanding that he cannot spend an hour without living his life the way he wanted and he goes to extreme to achieve that state when he has no case to solve. This is about taking pride in his individuality and character that he sculpted over the years.

Philosophy will teach you how to live. In short practically analyzing what you already have and see how to progress from there is better than starting completely a new.
